It’s inevitable. Everyone gets stressed at some point or the other, whether it be from planning some event, work, or school assignments. I pride myself on typically being someone who doesn’t get stressed easily, but come on, ya girl is human so it does happen from time to time. I just found an internship I want all kinds of bad so I know good and well that when it comes to getting all my ducks in a row for that, I will stress big time.

So, with that being said, I have five favorite ways to relax when life gets crazy that I want to share with y’all! Ranking them from least to most favorite, we start the list with…

Yes, you read that right. I took dance for years and I rarely felt better than I did when I left dance class. Now, I get it, not everyone wants to take a dance class, and not everyone likes the structure of a certain style dance. BUT, anybody can have a dance party at home! You have a bedroom? A living room? Any space at all? If you answered yes to any of these questions then that’s great! You’re halfway there! If not, we need to talk, haha. If you watch Greys Anatomy, Mer and Christina coined the phrase ‘Dance It Out’. It was the few minutes they took for themselves to just let go and have fun. It works for world class surgeons, so it works for me! Just get somewhere you can move around and crank up the jams. Then jump, shimmy, and shake all your worries away. Like my girl T Swift says, just “Shake It Off”.

4. Binge watch a TV show
I probably watch more TV than I should, I know that. I embrace that flaw. But, there’s something so satisfying about crawling into bed or curling up on the couch and diving into a show where you can forget all your problems. Doesn’t matter what you watch, as long as it works for you. Some of my favorites include Friends and New Girl when I need a good laugh. Then, Criminal Minds and Hawaii 5-0 are my go to crime show binges just because they’re SO good. I mean who else starts a show and then 3 hours later, comes back to reality feeling totally refreshed? Oh, just me? Ok. The point is, sometimes all you need is a good distraction to let your mind relax and unwind.

3. Spa Time
This one is kind of a mixture of a bunch of different things. A good at home spa night will work wonders for you, physically and mentally. There’s so many directions of relaxation to go in here. Paint your nails, throw on a face and hair mask, or toss a bath bomb in the tub to name a few. Seriously, if you’ve never splurged and indulged in some LUSH bath bombs, then stop reading this and go BUY SOME but please come back. 😊 They’re not bad until you do like me and buy like 8 at a time. Whoopsie Daisy. Seriously though, sometimes you just have to ‘Treat Yo Self!’

2. Journal
I have always enjoyed writing, so for me this almost ties for number one on my list, depending on the day. If you’re like me and enjoy ranting to blow off steam, you would probably be surprised at how liberating journaling is. Especially if you’re a private person, you can pour out your heart and soul into the pages of a notebook and no one will ever have to know about it. I’ve kept journals my entire life, but my favorite one right now is the one I keep right beside my bed. My parents, especially my daddy, have always been the first people I go to when I want to vent. I could call Daddy anytime of the day and rant nonstop about whatever it was I had going on at that time. He would patiently wait until I had to take a breath to give his advice or just simply let me know he agreed with my thoughts. Now, I keep that one journal beside my bed and whenever I’ve had a rough day or even an exciting day, I write it just like I would tell it if I was talking to Daddy on the phone. I can’t tell you how calm and light I feel after. If you’ve lost someone close to you, I also highly recommend this. It helps to work through the grieving process.

And last but certainly not least, my FAVORITE way to relax after a long day is….

1. Therapeutic Pinning
What? You ask. I’m 99% sure it’s not a thing but I’m making it one. Therapeutic Pinning. You heard it here first. It’s no secret that I love Pinterest. Believe it or not, but laying in the bed scrolling through Pinterest is my favorite way to unwind. The recipes, the quotes, planning my future home, I LOVE it. I honestly can’t tell y’all why it relaxes me so much but it does. If you’ve never tried it, I highly recommend giving it a try!

  1. Hey! I could not agree more. One – No one can really avoid stress, unless that no one is a baby who hasn’t learnt to speak yet 🙂 and we have common- Dance , Spa and write.
